The Reverend Doctor Benhardt Fraumann (or “Ben” if you prefer being less stuffy) is one of our co-pastors here at First Hackensack. Ordained way back, in the pre-dawn mists of history he has been pastor of four churches and retired after 40 years as the pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Ringwood, N.J.

He has been married for 50 years to his beautiful wife, Nora, and has two children and four grandchildren. His hobbies include golf, bridge, gardening, and physical conditioning. He is not so good at the first three, but he goes to the gym three times a week to lift weights, do calisthenics, and then swims for half an hour.

Ben has enjoyed being a pastor and, with close to 50 years experience, he has seen just about everything. There has been much joy and much sorrow, but he considers himself most fortunate man. Ben has enjoyed being a retired teaching pastor.....

The Reverend Carl T. Phipps, Sr. was born into a strong Christian family and began studying classical and gospel music at the age of seven, developing a lifelong foundation in faith and the arts.

He serves as the Executive Director of H.O.P.E. for Ex-Offenders Inc., where he leads efforts in restoration and reentry. For over sixteen years, he has pioneered programs supporting adolescents and adults returning back home within the Bergen County, New Jersey Department of Juvenile Justice, demonstrating a deep commitment to transforming lives and communities.

Rev. Phipps earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from The College of New Rochelle and Molloy College, received theological training from Bethel Bible Institute, and is currently attending New Brunswick Theological Seminary.

He now serves as Co-Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Hackensack, New Jersey, faithfully following God’s call. Grounded in humility and service, he lives by the principle, “To whom much is given, much is required.”

In his personal time, Rev. Phipps enjoys bowling and participating in recreational activities, including officiating high school sports.

Rev. Phipps resides in Paterson, New Jersey with his wife, Charlette, his “Diamond.”
